MCLC CE Library Tour, Scottsdale Civic Center Library
Scottsdale Civic Center Library
Civic Center Library is in the heart of downtown Scottsdale alongside City Hall. It was opened in 1968 as part of a larger civic complex designed by local architect Bennie Gonzalez. The original 37,000 square foot building was expanded to 103,000 square feet in 1987. The building sits on recently renovated park-like grounds with a lagoon, fountains, public art, amphitheaters and play areas. The interior of the library features a whimsical youth room with a castle motif, the Yellow Spruce Café, the College and Career Corner, a new makerspace, and a 280-seat auditorium. The library is home to the Scottsdale Heritage Collection which houses a 2000 square foot collection of local history, art and artifacts, including yearbooks, newspapers, directories, and rare materials. The archives also preserve visual records of library events and expansions.
