About Mining Irish-American LivesMining history is a cornerstone of the American West, especially Arizona; however, the personal experiences of miners and their families remains elusive. Noonan’s research uses often-missed resources to piece together a tapestry about the Irish and Irish-American women and men who worked and lived in these towns during a pivotal era.

You can read and listen to books about the history and culture of Arizona for free on Reading Arizona.

Dr. Alan J. M. Noonan earned his PhD in history from University College Cork in 2013 and has received several prestigious history fellowships including the Glucksman Government of Ireland Fellowship at New York University and the Kluge Fellowship at the Library of Congress and served as the inaugural Historian in Residence for Cork City Libraries during the Decade of Centenaries. He has written extensively on migration, American social and cultural history, the Irish diaspora, and has produced podcasts on the history and formation of An Garda Síochána (Irish policeforce) and the docklands of Cork. Currently, he teaches at the University of Montana.
