AZ Libraries for Early Literacy Regional Summit - Tucson

The Arizona State Library will offer 3 regional summits that include workshops, activities and networking opportunities with a focus on early literacy.  Multiple sessions will be offered at each Regional Summit including sessions on storytimes, family engagement, and the importance of play.

Sessions will include:

Family Engagement at the Library: Putting the PLAY Back into Programs - Mariko Whelan

Play is crucial for children’s development, fostering creativity, social skills, and cognitive abilities. Integrating play into library activities promotes a positive learning environment, encouraging families to bond through shared experiences while enhancing literacy and communication skills in an enjoyable way. In this interactive session we will explore ways to promote family engagement through playful program ideas. We need to ensure that play is reinstated or remains a central and enjoyable component of library programming. As we work to engage families, we need to remember that the key is to make activities enjoyable and inclusive, encouraging families to connect while exploring the wonders of the library.
