Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response

The workshop will be held in the Alice Chaiten Baker Center for Art Education, Kimball Conference Room.

This workshop introduces and outlines emergency management and risk management concepts that help prepare for an event impacting collections and records holdings and appropriate response activities. Specific topics covered include.

  • Sources of data on hazards and risks for the geographic area of the workshop,
  • A tool for risk assessment,
  • The establishment of Essential Records and salvage priorities,
  • Roles in disaster response,
  • Elements of a disaster response plan, and
  • Basics of response and recovery.

The presentation includes a disaster scenario discussion and hands on salvage of materials submerged in water at the beginning of the day.
