Restorative Justice: The Key to Creating Spaces for Teens – Stephen Jackson

Join us for an experiential session where you can not only learn about Restorative practices that are being implemented in the public library space but experience a virtual Restorative Circle by a trained practitioner. In this session you will learn how Restorative practices are beneficial to the teen population and internally to your staff.  Breakout room discussions to follow presentation.

Stephen Jackson is the Manager of Teen Services at the Oak Park Public Library (OPPL). In 2016, Stephen utilized his Restorative Justice background to aid in the successful integration of Social Services in OPPL. The Teen Services Department is a newly formed unit within the organization curated with Stephens' effort and commitment to service. He is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of strategic outcomes for programs and services provided to the teen population at OPPL. With over 10 years of Restorative Justice experience, Stephen has facilitated and implemented a number of dynamic community and youth development programs.

This session will be a fast-paced sharing, full of idea inspiration and sharing. Join your colleagues from across Arizona to learn about successful teen programming during the time of COVID.  Share your own ideas and learn from others in the teen programming breakout room discussions to follow panel presentation.

You Can Transform Teen Services – Linda Braun, YALSA

What does it take to transform teen services to successfully serve teens in YOUR local community?  In this interactive session learn about the mindsets, skills, and opportunities needed to make sure that the teens you serve have what they need to succeed.

Linda W. Braun is the project manager for the IMLS funded Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) project, Transforming Teen Services: A Train the Trainer Approach. She is a learning consultant with LEO and a past president of YALSA.

One Book, One Summit - Book Discussion Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

As part of the Arizona Teen Services Summit 2021, Patty Jimenez will facilitate a book discussion on the book by Aiden Thomas, Cemetery Boys.  Not only will this be a time when you can connect with your colleagues, but you will learn some tips and tricks including basic structure for holding your own virtual book discussion.
