Please join the Maricopa County Library Council Continuing Education Committee for a tour of the McClelland Library at the Irish Cultural Center on February 10th, 2022 from 9:30-11AM.

The Irish Cultural Center and McClelland Library provides a comprehensive and interactive cultural and learning experience linking the people of and visitors to Arizona with the people of Ireland and other Celtic cultures. We hope to preserve Irish heritage and culture in Arizona while illuminating the culture of Ireland and the Irish in America. The ICC offers programs, classes, festivals and special events including history, music, art, dance, literature, drama, crafts, language, travel, sports and traditional activities.  The Irish Cultural Center campus is composed of three buildings and one memorial. On tours guests will visit and learn about An Gorta Mor (Hunger Memorial), the Great Hall, Cottage, and McClelland Library.

The McClelland Library was designed by the architect, Paul Ahern, after a 12th century Norman Castle. The three-story building houses more than 10,000 books from Irish authors, poets, and genealogical sources. In addition to the book collection, the library houses a permanent exhibit on The Book of Kells, exhibits focusing on the Irish Diaspora, a Genealogy Centre, several reading rooms, rare books room, and computer access to various disciplines of Irish and Celtic studies. The library is the largest of its kind in the Western United States."

The purpose of the Maricopa County Library Council Continuing Education Committee is to create and arrange for relevant, quality programming and workshops for librarians and paraprofessionals working in academic, public, school, special, and tribal libraries.

The McClelland Library is located at 1106 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
